About

History

Thank you for visiting the Pili Pala Fabrics website.  I’m Sinéad Hughes, the owner of Pili Pala Fabrics.  In March 2020 my usual work of visiting schools to supply educational resources came to an abrupt end due to the pandemic.  As I had plenty of free time, I volunteered my services in the local community to help with tasks such as collecting shopping and prescriptions and helped to establish our village community support group.  Before long, we were contacted by our county volunteer organisation to see if any of our volunteers could help with making face masks for the volunteer drivers who take people to hospital for appointments or ferry them home after a hospital stay.  We established a sewing group in the village and over the following months we made hundreds of face masks for local volunteers and elderly and shielding residents in our village and hundreds of laundry bags for NHS and care home staff.  Following on from that, as I was still unable to return to my normal employment, I began to sell face masks to the general public through my Facebook page, Mask Malarkey.  During this process, I fell in love with fabric and decided to start a new business selling fabric and haberdashery and thus Pili Pala Fabrics was born.
